You are doing WHAT tomorrow?

Among the conversations I don’t expect to have with Rebecca….today was one of those.

Rebecca:”Hey Mom, Tomorrow “E” and I have to go to Mr. Meyer’s office to have a little talk with him.”

Red flag goes up……she is scheduled for the principals office?

Me:”For Student Leadership Team? Is it about the Walk for Cancer you are organizing?”

This is the sort of thing she does at school, because she is a straight A, student council kind of kid.

Rebecca: “Ummmmmmm No, it’s because me and “E” kind of hit and kicked “M” (boy in class) after school yesterday while you were in your parent-teacher conference.

Okay extremely alarmed!!!!!!

Me: “Rebecca Anne….why on earth would you do such a thing, you were raised better than that”!

Rebecca:”Well “E” and I were playing on top of the tunnel on the playground and he came over and pushed me off so I got mad and hauled off and hit him. He was fine when he left but “E” said he cried on the way home and then he told his mom, and now the principal wants to talk to us tomorrow”

Speechless……(for a while)

Me: “Surely you could have made a better choice than hitting the boy, Rebecca”.

Rebecca: “Mom, daddy says I should always defend myself when a boy comes after me….so I did.”

Speechless again…..(for a while)….should I yell at John Mark?

I have decided letting her talk to the principal and having the school merit what punishment that it will. Then we are having a long talk that a boy pushing you off of playground equipment wasn’t quite what John Mark meant when teaching her some self-defense moves……but holy cow, apparently my ten year old can kick ass and take names……not sure what to make of that

Just a touch of Bitter and throw in some Irony

There has been a lot of flack given to review bloggers, in which I consider myself one….although to be honest that is only about half of my posts because I can’t get way from talking about my real life and parenting my girls.

I definitely have a melting pots as far as blogs are concerned, which is fine by me because you can read what you want and skip the rest. It hurts my feeling not in the slightest. The problem comes into play when the ethics of review bloggers come into question. Am I always giving you my honest opinion or am I trying to sell you a product in which I have been “paid” to do.

I think for me it is a little bit of both. I love trying new things and will often get caught up in the moment of being one of the first to try something and then getting to share it with others. Combined with my enthusiasm for things in general and my cheerful laid-back nature, I hardly come across anything I don’t like or can’t find the good in. That being said, everything I write is strictly my own opinion and should be taken as such.

There have been products I have not cared for, although I usually have a tactful way of saying I may not have cared for it personally. I would say that if you choose to purchase something based upon my recommendation please use your own judgement.

With that being said I wanted to talk about my own ethics because a friend of mine who is also a review blogger was approached by a commenter to purposely have their number chosen randomly and she would send money for half the value of the prize if she were guaranteed to win the giveaway. I should preface this by saying it wasn’t even an expensive prize, it was baby wardrobe.

I find that despicable and downright tacky (there I go getting all southern on you). If the ethics of bloggers come into question let us draw attention to those who enter giveaways under multiple email addresses, so that instead of the 6 entries I usually guarantee each commenter, they end up with 18-24 different ways to get into the giveaway. While I won’t even let my family enter my giveaways in an effort to stay above reproach the same cannot be said of those who troll through all the giveaways in blogville under multiple names and email addresses.

I must say I was stunned and disheartened that this has happened to a fellow blogger and hope this is a one time event and not a trend. I also know the name of the commenter in question and it is someone who has entered many of my giveaways. I want to warn anyone who come in under false pretenses that I reserve the right to redraw winners if I feel the ethics of the giveaway has been compromised in any way, and I will not hesitate to let my sponsors know why.

Happy Day Banners Review and Giveaway

To Celebrate Rebecca turning eleven this week I am proud to talk about a company that helped make that special. Happy Day Banners is an online banner company specializing in banners for every occasion. I was looking for just the thing to make Rebecca feel special and showcased as the diva she thinks she is, and I knew a special birthday banner was just the thing to do that.

The website is wonderful with all of it’s choices. There were nearly 40 different looks in the birthday section alone. From choices for children to your more adult turning 21 with drinks, or “Over the Hill” to make everyone notice the birthday girl or boy. Well as you can see Rebecca is so proud of hers, and we promised it could adorn the gate at her birthday party this weekend at a friend’s ranch. She thinks that will be incredible special to drive through a gate that has “her” banner hanging from it.

If you don’t particularly need a birthday banner, then how about custom made banners for everything from graduations, wedding, sports teams, and even garage sales. The garage sale one would really come in handy since my friend Tammy and I throw one about twice a year. Really the possibilities are endless. My favorite though were the banners for the marriage proposals. That would really be romantic and attention getting!

Would you like to win your own custom-made banner? Thanks to Happy Day Banners for offering to sponsor a giveaway for one from my site. The certificate entitles the winner to one 2×4 foot banner and free shipping (not to exceed $34.99). When you see all the choices, you will be as impressed as I was. Prima Princessa Review and Giveaway

Regan is the ballerina in our family. In fact it is one of her favorite things to do in life. Every Monday she has her own private dance class where she can work on her skills, and use her walker as her barre. Last year her performance was so touching there was not a dry eye in the house at the dance recital. Knowing how much dance means to my daughter I was thrilled to receive a copy of Prima Princessa to review. Oh by the way isn’t she cute in her recital costume?

Prima Princessa was viewed by both of my daughter’s and my five year old niece. We spent an evening watching and dancing to Swan Lake, and learning some basic moves. Even if you do not know a pirouette from a grand jete you will enjoy watching this DVD with any of your tiny dancers. This show includes:

It is a 40 minute DVD for anyone aspiring to be a ballerina or princess and stars a cartoon fairy ballerina princess named Prima Princessa who takes an adorable group of pre-school girls on a magic journey to see a live performance of Swan Lake, performed by the world famous Paris Opera Ballet, complete with kid-friendly narration by Prima Princessa. Between acts they come home and in a fun montage of animals, kids, and young dancers from the New York City Ballet’s SAB they learn basic ballet steps. Our DVD gets kids up and dancing and twirling in their livingrooms!

Would you like the chance to experience this wonderful DVD for yourself? You can win a copy This giveaway is open to US residents only and will be close May 10, 2009 midnight CST. If you are entering this giveaway anonymously please leave an email address where you can be reached.

Why Check the Weather?

Anytime I have ever traveled, while I am packing I check the weather channel or go online to see the seven day forecast for the place I am headed for. I mean there is no reason to pack sundresses if I am heading for a blizzard, right? I guess I thought that was a logical thing that most people did…..but alas my darling husband does not appear to be most people.

John Mark left Saturday for a week in St. Louis to work at his company’s headquarters. A lot of times he is asked to come up and teach new people in the company, or to do some mentoring. So he left bright and sunny south Texas where the weather was a balmy high 60’s to low 70’s and headed into snow…..completely unprepared in his packing.

This morning I get the phone call to please get his heavy duty trench coat to his secretary to overnight it to him (can we say expensive?) because he is freezing. Freezing huh…guess next time you’ll check the weather bucko!
